Oats!

Oats and I have a long-standing love-hate relationship. I go through phases where I absolutely hate oatmeal, both cooked and of the "overnight" variety, Currently, I'm in a love phase. I started eating hot oatmeal again a few weeks ago and these last few days have had overnight oats and I've enjoyed each bowl.

Did you know that oatmeal can help keep blood pressure under control? How cool is that? A bowl of oatmeal a day can sometimes make the difference for someone who may have needed medicine to treat high blood pressure. (I'm no doctor, so, do your own research and speak with your doctor, of course.) Find a bunch of heart healthy and animal friendly recipes here at PCRM.

Breakfast this morning

Lately, my oats have been exactly the same as this photo (sometimes I like the consistency of the same breakfast day in and day out.) Overnight oats with oat milk, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, pecans, and dried cranberries.

Here's how I make it:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup oats

3/4 cup oat milk (you might be wondering if the oats are essentially "Inceptioned" at this point, I wonder that a lot too) You can also use any plant milk you like. It's important to make it so you'll like it because then you'll eat it.

Instructions:

Add oats to a container, pour milk over the oats, cover and leave in the fridge overnight. Overnight oats keep for about 5 days.

I add my toppings when I'm ready to eat but you can definitely add a little cinnamon or nutmeg when making them to let the flavors soak in overnight. Unless you really LOVE cinnamon or nutmeg, a pinch should suffice.

You can add a drizzle of quality maple or date syrup if you like but I find the oats to be sweet enough on their own.
