What about the leather belt?
We're 21 days into Veganuary and no doubt you've been making some changes in the meals you are having, products you're buying...etc. but you might be wondering what to do about the stuff that isn't so easily replaced. First, I will tell you that you are not alone, a lot of new vegans (and some not so new vegans) spend some time thinking about this. I will share my story and offer another option as well. When I went vegetarian in 2001, I was living with my parents, had very fe

Knowing when to step away
Not too long ago I made the decision to step away from something that had brought so much joy to my life but at this point it was causing me more pain and frustration than it was giving me joy or growth. So, I sat with all of my feelings, expectations, expectations of me, where I had felt unappreciated, and how things had changed. I also heard from some in my life who had seen the dip in my enthusiasm, seen that the light had gone out around the thing. I stepped away and I fe

Is it getting easier for you?
In today's Ultimate Blog Challenge prompt the email starts with that question " is it getting easier for you?" Of course, that question in the email is asking about the blog challenge, is it getting easier to write each day? I'd also like to take that question and apply it to being vegan too. First, I am actually finding writing blogs to be harder right now. I think it makes sense that there will be some peaks and valleys over the course of this challenge, I mean, that's why

Remembering why you started and how to keep going
It's day 11 of Veganuary and by now you've no doubt hit a snag or had a difficult conversation, maybe you've wondered if it's worth it to make such a big change when the people around you don't seem keen on it. Once I had gone vegetarian I knew I would never going back to eating animal flesh, wearing leather...etc. but I was definitely aware of how much easier life was before I made the switch. It is not easy to go against the norm, but it is meaningful, which is what helped

Reading Resources - taking it offline...
I don't know about you, but I love reading. Gee Kimberly...we didn't know that about you...you've definitely never mentioned it before or asked people about what they're reading....( World Book Day , Whatcha Readin'? , My Current Reads ) Anyway....here are some books I encourage you to check out to support you in your vegan journey. This is in no way an exhaustive list, in fact, I'm going to break it out into a couple of blogs so we can focus on various topics. Animal...

Got questions?
We're 7 days into Veganuary, what questions are coming up for you? Are you wondering about protein? Iron? Calcium? Omegas? Here's a fun video from nutritionist Callum Weir on all of these things (listen to him on Did You Bring the Hummus here and visit his website here .) I've been vegan for 10 years, went vegetarian more than 24 years ago, but, I am not a nutritionist, so I am always going to point you to resources who are trained and experts in that field to guide you. Learning to cook vegan
Click the image to visit the Veganuary site to sign up and for more information If you know my story, you know that I went vegetarian in 2001 with no idea how to cook...seriously.no.idea.I cannot stress that enough. Since I was clueless I had to start learning fast, so, for me that meant a lot of trial and error and a LOT of sad looking and not so great tasting food. What I'm saying here is, no matter your current skill level in the kitchen, you can learn to cook vegan and be

Ummm...what??!?
On today's That Vegan Morning Show Jen and I talked about something really important to the vegan movement, ex-vegans who go SO hard the other way and what makes them do that. This wasn't our original topic but then only a few days before the end of 2025 a person who had been vegan for 30 years and had even worked for Veganuary announced she was leading a "Forget Veganuary" event during the month of January. So often, when someone who had been calling themselves vegan announc

Resolutions? Nah...
What about a word or theme of the year instead? I've written about this in the past, but, I don't do resolutions. Any time I've done them they've either been too big so I was immediately overwhelmed or they were too vague so I had no idea where to start even though It was my Idea! Finding your word: Check out previous word of the year focused blogs with some guidance on how to find your word: Word of the year New Year, New episode, New blog challenge, New word What's your w
