Here in NJ, and many states across the U.S., Daylight Savings Time begins today and it feels like a pre-cursor to spring (even if I do feel tired all day after "losing" an hour.) This year, the Vernal, or Spring Equinox occurs at 11:33am ET on Sunday, March 20th.
Ostara, celebrated on the Spring Equinox celebrates the equality of day and night and the coming of longer days, where light triumphs over dark. This is a holiday of new beginnings, if we have been anxiously awaiting the courage to launch into something new, or we know we've been putting off something that can significantly change our lives, this is a great time to embark on these new journeys.
Whether you are planting actual or metaphorical seeds, Spring is a great time to harness the change going on around us in nature to create change within us.
If you are already vegan and thinking about planting some metaphorical seeds, why not join in on FARM's annual Meat Out on March 20th. Encourage your non-vegan friends to eat vegan that day, take them to your favorite restaurant or host them in your home. Non-vegans, don't be shy, give vegan a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Cities around the country are joining in, I'm excited to see what expanded offerings various restaurants around here will have. For more info, visit FARM's Meat Out site here
You can also plant those metaphorical seeds regarding goals you're setting now. Think ahead, what would you like to "harvest" in a few months? My word for the year is Transform, so each time I sit down to think about a goal or where I'm going that day/week/month, I think about what I'm doing to transform. This keeps me focused and allows me to streamline whatever it is I'm working on. Meditate and journal on it, colors to support your meditation are lighter greens and pastels, feel free to call in the help/symbolism of bunnies, chicks, and butterflies to give your goal setting a bit more oomph and support.
If planting actual seeds, whether a full on garden or just a few pots, meditate with your physical seeds too! Hold the seeds in your hand or place them in front of you and meditate on the growing season you are hoping to have. What are your plans for those fruits or veggies? Imagine in your mind what you will make with them, smell the fresh soil as you pick them, allow your senses to fill with the smells, tastes, and textures of these nourishing foods.
I will be in an Angelic Reiki Training when the Equinox occurs, but am happy I am still able to offer an online gathering to celebrate the Equinox and Ostara with you on Tuesday, March 22 at 7pm EDT. Click here for more information and to sign up. I hope to see you there, it's going to be good!
