Ask me anything

I like to do an Ask Me Anything once every Ultimate Blog Challenge, so, here it is for January!!

If you already have a question, great, drop it in the chat. If you need a jumping off point, here are some of the topics I get asked about the most:

  • veganism (you don't say...)

  • spirituality/nature/crystals

  • meditation

  • products I use

I'm happy to answer personal questions within reason too, so, let your curiosity go a bit and drop your question(s) in the comments. Any question and answer I think many of my readers will benefit from will become it's own blog entry!

You are also welcome to tell me more about you, so go ahead and leave anything you think I should know about you in the comments too! 😃

On the Vegan side, can you eat imitation crab meat and what about almonds? I made a delicious lunch today with sauteed broccoli and cauliflower and added almonds and imitation crab.

Almonds are vegan while they do take a considerable amount of water to produce (which I'm guessing is why you're asking) it is nowhere near the amount of water used to produce animal products.

Imitation crab, however, still contains fish so is not suitable for vegans. I didn't eat fish before my veg days so I don't seek out vegan alternatives but what I understand from those who do, there are some pretty amazing vegan fish products available now.

You may have an entire post about it, but my question goes to where it all started: How did you become interested and invested in veganism? Tamara

Oooo, this is a fun one! I do have posts and podcasts about it! The short story is, I received an episode of PETA's Animal Times Magazine in the mail in July 2001, I read it cover to cover that night and was vegetarian overnight. The more I learned the more I knew vegan was my goal. I learned how to eat differently and how to cook and went vegan in 2015. How I became invested in it, that I will make today's blog! Thanks for the inspiration!

How did you start meditating?Any tips you calm the mind down?Amrita ubc

Hmm, I honestly can't remember how I started, it feels like meditation has just been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My top tip, don't try to calm the mind at all! 😃 Our mind is just doing what it's supposed to do, the trick is to learn how to not engage with those thoughts. When I began using MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction) techniques that process made a lot more sense. I was able to "watch" a thought go by and not get caught up in it, I could return to my point of focus more quickly. Point of focus can be something like your breath or a sound in the room. Being…

Tell me about fasting? I'm curious to know how you do it.

I think I accidentally did some intermittent fasting for a couple weeks just last year. I found I wasn't eating until later in the morning so I gave myself a cutoff time too. It didn't really stick though, I have found that I can eat more healthfully when I eat within an hour of waking up. Sorry that I can't be of more help but if I find some good resources, I'll be sure to pass them on!

How would you describe your spirituality? I actually thought of several questions, but decided not to overwhelm you. :) - Jeanine

Hi Jeanine! I would describe my spirituality as nature-based, witchy, and angelic. I pull daily Oracle cards, mediate on the trees or the birds, work with herbs and crystals, practice angelic reiki...it's a really nice (for me) mix of things that make sense to me. What I don't have is an overarching divine being. If you're up for answering, how would you describe yours? Feel free to share another question too, if you have one! 😃😃😃
