On today's That Vegan Morning Show Jen and I talked about something really important to the vegan movement, ex-vegans who go SO hard the other way and what makes them do that.
This wasn't our original topic but then only a few days before the end of 2025 a person who had been vegan for 30 years and had even worked for Veganuary announced she was leading a "Forget Veganuary" event during the month of January.
So often, when someone who had been calling themselves vegan announces to their followers that they are no longer vegan you'll find many people commenting some version of "they were never vegan, just plant-based" but I find it hard to believe that with this person. She was an active vegan activist until she wasn't.
So...what happened? Well, neither Jen nor I know this person so we haven't been able to ask but check out today's episode to hear what we think and let us know your thoughts either in the comments on the video or come back here and comment below. We also solicited some thoughts from vegan psychologist Clare Mann about this topic, check out the episode to hear an expert take on this.
Sign ups are almost closed, we start tomorrow!!!
If you are looking for more personal Veganuary support, there is still time to join me and my morning show co-host (and fellow UBCer) Jennifer Shlomovich in our Veganuary container. Click here to learn more and to sign up. We kick off on Tuesday, January 6th.

It's great being back doing That Vegan Morning Show with you! 💚This was a great discussion!💚 Clare's perspective was very insightful! 💚
Wow, 30 years is a long time; it really makes you stop and wonder what could lead someone to step away from something they’ve dedicated their life to.
If the last 5 years have taught us anything, it's that folks that are chasing likes and views, change their stripes when the algorithm changes. Congrats on season 2! My word of the year is phoenix.
Congratulations on Season 2. My 2026 3 Word Mantra is Embrace My Creativity. Now, to your show topic: while you may not actually know why she left Veganism, she has definitely opened the door to conversations and to helping you educate others.
