...another gender reveal leads to suffering for another bird.

A pigeon now named Azure was captured in New York City after a resident reported a bird who had been frequenting their yard for several days and was asking for help. Turns out, this beautiful pigeon's feathers had been dyed blue. It Is suspected that the feathers were dyed as such for a gender reveal. Which, If I'm honest, I find disgusting.

You can see the Instagram post about Azure here - below are 2 screenshots from the post, look at this sweet bird.

Azure was beginning to experience respiratory issues so he was taken in by the Wild Bird Fund. If you read the post you'll see the author mention King Pigeon Flamingo, who had been fully dyed pink 2 years ago and died from respiratory Issues related to the dye. I was so horrified by what had been done to Flamingo that I did a podcast episode about him. You can listen to that on my website here or on your favorite podcast app and search Flamingo or Episode 37 within my show. It's only 10 minutes long, please listen. Please think about Flamingo and Azure and never, ever use dye on any animal.

Below is a beautiful post from Wild Bird Fund after Flamingo passed away.

I think about pigeons a lot. I hope you will too. Do not participate in dove releases, pigeon runs, and do not ever use any animals in gender reveals.

This is soooo horrific!!! It is so upsetting that people think this is okay! This gender reveal trend has gotten out of hand! I remember what happened to poor Flamingo. I will check out your episode later. I hope Azure's story has a happier ending! Thank you for bringing awareness to this!

After I wrote this blog I thought about it and realized that I have never been invited to a gender reveal party, which made me feel good about having the right people in my life. 😃 I too hope Azure's story has a happier ending, I haven't yet seen any updates though.

This is unconscionable. I hope they find who did it and press charges.

What is wrong with people? If they feel the need to inform their family and friends about the gender of their baby, there are so many possibilities to do so that don't involve harassing animals.

I don't know why anyone needs to know the gender of their baby. And releasing a dove or pigeon is animal abuse. People. No explanation.

I could not agree more! These stupid parties keep getting bigger and causing more harm to animals and the environment.
