Magical Practice: The Daily Card Pull

From Kyle Gray's Raise Your Vibration deck

Every morning, after I set an Intention with my coffee (see Monday's blog here: Start your day by setting an Intention) I pull a card for the day and I ask the same question almost every time. What do I need to know today?

Since I've just set my Intention for the day I'm still In a meditative headspace so I just anchor the daily card pull to that (anchoring Is how I get most things done). I use the same deck for an extended period of time so I am connecting regularly and building my own Interpretation of the cards while trusting my Intuition.

I only use Angel and Oracle cards, I am not at all trained In Tarot and while I do have a Tarot deck, I've never really connected with It. So, If you are a Tarot card reader and something I say here conflicts with how Tarot are handled, please follow the guidance you have for those particular cards and system.

My oracle card training Is through Kyle Gray so I use a lot of his approaches to things, Including the mantra before pulling the card. I've Included that below:

Settling In to pull your oracle card for the day:

  • With the deck you will use In your hand, take 3 deep breaths.

  • Say out loud or to yourself:

    • Thank you angels for reminding me of your presence and revealing to me what I need to know

    • It feels so good to know you are here

    • I am ready to listen and receive

    • And so It Is (So mote It be...etc. however you like to close)

  • You can substitute who/whatever you are tapping Into where I have noted angels (Kyle Gray Is "the" angel guy)

  • Fan your cards out on the surface In front of you and pick a card. I often close my eyes when choosing but you don't have to

  • Spend a few minutes allowing any messages from the card to land, maybe even journal about It. I don't often have a ton of time In the morning so I jot down my Initial Impressions then leave the card up on my desk (I work from home) so I'm able to see It and keep the messages fresh In my mind. I may also return to my journal If something else comes through that feels meaningful at another point In the day

I'm planning to write more about choosing an oracle deck and how to connect with It In upcoming blogs. If you're local though (northwest NJ), I am teaching an oracle cards class In person this Saturday at Ethos Farm In Long Valley, NJ. Classes with me at Ethos are always free, though a $15 donation to Ethos Is also encouraged.

I am working on getting back into a morning routine. I used to use oracle cards and haven't in awhile. I usually use them when I am feeling stuck about something. I think a morning routine with them would be a great way for me to set the tone of my day. It would pair nicely for me with the practice you shared on Monday.✨

That is so interesting. I don't know anything about oracle cards. Do they tell you about your qualities or about something that could happen? Does it feel like a meditation? I am so curious.

These are great questions, Alice! I am going to write a blog to respond to your first question. The second question, yes, I think it does feel like a meditation when pulling and interpreting cards. It definitely keeps me in the moment. I'll be sure to link you to the blog where I answer your question!

I’ve never worked with oracle (or any) cards before, so I’d definitely be a beginner! I’m curious what you would recommend for someone who is completely new to this.

ooo, yay! I love a beginner! lol I think the first step is to find a deck. If you have a metaphysical shop nearby you might want to go and see what decks they have on hand. Sometimes it's nice to hold the box in your hand and really look at the imagery to help you decide. You can also look at decks online at Hay House or even on Amazon. Try not to overthink it, follow your gut. Even if it's just that you find the imagery the most striking, that's something (and the first step in tapping into that inner guidance). Most oracle decks run from about $10 - $35USD. If you find yourself drawn to Tarot you…
