Another Ultimate Blog Challenge Is upon us and I'm excited to be back!

If you're new here, welcome! The Ultimate Blog Challenge Is a free quarterly challenge to get you writing consistently and driving traffic to your website. The ultimate goal is to write and post 31 blogs in 31 days in the month of October but you also can set your cadence to what works best for you. If that sounds like fun, there's still time to sign up, just click on the Ultimate Blog Challenge link above.

To my fellow UBCer's, It's good to be back and be writing along with you this month. Please be sure to say hi In the comments!

I've been back and forth on what the theme for this month would be and since I couldn't decide, this month will have 2: podcasting and establishing or expanding your magical practice (just to be clear, this Is like connecting with the Earth and stuff, not card tricks or sawing anyone In half.)

Of course, Did You Bring the Hummus Is also your go-to for all things vegan and the podcast Itself Is a vegan focused show so you know you'll find veganism popping up throughout the month as well.

What to expect:

Did You Bring the Hummus? - Season 8 launches later this month so I'll be sharing some details on upcoming topics and guests

General Podcasting stuff: I'll be sharing questions to ponder, tips, activities, and my lessons learned to help you get started on your podcast or Inspire you to keep going

Magical Practices: October Is a great month to dig Into your connection to the Earth, her Inhabitants, and the universe as a whole. October also ends with Samhain (pronounced sow-in), or The Witches' New Year so I'll have some fun activities and stories on this all month long too.

Podcasting Activity:

If you are at the point where you're just thinking about starting a podcast, I want to celebrate that! It's a big undertaking but Is also super rewarding and fun! My first tip for you Is to think about your why. I talk about "the why" constantly. It really Is the base question for just about anything. Why do you want x...why are you doing y...etc., you get the picture.

To keep It simple on our first day together, ask yourself the following three things:

  1. Why do I want to do a podcast?

  2. What do I think I want the focus of the show to be?

  3. What can I talk about for hours and not get bored?

Sometimes the answers to questions 2 and 3 are different!

Magical Practice Activity:

It's the first of the month, time to break out the magical cleansers and cinnamon! Wipe down your doors and blow some cinnamon Into your home.

Magically (and actually) cleaning the door/entrance(s) with Intention. Take your favorite cleaner or moon water (see this blog for tips on making moon water) and wipe down the door or doors you use to enter and exit your home. As you wipe them clean set Intentions for the month. What are you Inviting In? What are you letting go? Words are spells, whether they rhyme or not, so allow yourself to be In the moment and really think about these things as you clean.

Once you're done, grab your cinnamon and get ready to usher In protection and abundance!

Stand outside of your door facing Into your home, sprinkle a small amount of ground cinnamon onto your palm, recite out loud or In your mind your wish for protection and prosperity this month. Then gently blow the cinnamon over the threshold Into your home. This small amount of cinnamon will disperse as you go In and out but, If you used more than just a sprinkle you can sweep It up the next time you clean your floors.

This Is an acitvity you can do at the start of every month, not just October!

Important note about cinnamon If animals also live In your home:

Do not use ground cinnamon or blow It Into your home as noted above. Cinnamon can be toxic to cats and can Irritate the paws and lungs of our other-than human animals In our homes.

Alternatives:

  • Place a cinnamon stick above your door (on the molding), just be mindful not to slam the door as the cinnamon stick can fall down.

  • If you keep a besom (magical broom) by the front door add a cinnamon stick to It (as long as It Is out of reach of our animal friends.)

  • Use the magic of your mind! Mime the actions of blowing the cinnamon over your threshold and hold the Image In your minds eye of the cinnamon. (Sometimes, we've gotta be super creative to keep everyone safe!)

Yay! I am glad to see you back doing UCB. I am excited to learn from you more tips on podcasting as well as magical practices!💖✨ It's interesting, I never heard about the cinnamon until earlier today, when I saw someone post about it. I would like to incorporate more energy practices. Also congrats on season 8 of DYBTH! I am looking forward to it! I also need to catch up! lol
